The Faith at Home program (a.k.a. F@H or Faith@Home) at Southminster is designed to do just that: to help our community live out their Christian faith in their homes. To those ends the F@H Team provides at least three different resources:
Each week the F@H Team produces a take-home devotional that is available online on the home page or in the printed bulletin at our weekly services. The devotional is intended for any "home-unit" (that is, people who live together at home, usually but not always a family) to spend one consistent time each week, about 30 min, to talk through the questions, readings, activities, songs, videos, or whatever else is included in the take-home. It is based on the scripture preached on that week so deeper learning can be experienced. The take-homes are written for all ages. To see a list of take-homes from past weeks, see below...
About once a month during the school year a certain group of children (example: 3-5 year olds) and their parents (and grandparents if they wish) are called out of the regular worship service to go to a different room for that hour for a F@H workshop. Surprise! These workshops are intended to give home-units tools for living out their faith together in their home. Whether it's learning how to pray together, how to develop habits of faithful money management, how do use the internet safely and properly, or how to know and use one's spiritual giftedness, these workshops are important enough for the development of the kids and home-units to merit this special attention. If you're new to SPC don't worry, we wont force you to leave the service to go! But for members and regular attendees these are well attended, informative, and inspirational.
On top of the weekly take-homes and monthly workshops the F@H Team also tries to sense the needs of the community with regard to the culture and do special events on particular subjects that affect how a home-unit might live out their faith at home. Examples of these are: sex and dating for teens, parenting in the new millennium, Godly finances and stewardship, and the like. Keep your eyes peeled for more of these opportunities!
